Release context
Gramology appeared in 2010 after a three-year gap from Magic Numbers and was the first new 1200 Micrograms release in that span. Rather than another full-length concept album, it was issued as a six-track digital EP, making it a more compact return from the quartet.
The release still connects strongly with the group's earlier language. It includes Ecstasy Part 2, explicitly continuing a theme from the debut album, while other tracks lean into the project's mixture of psychedelic samples, flute, humour and high-energy full-on production. Gramology therefore works as both a comeback and a self-referential release, drawing on the group's past without simply compiling it.
