Release context
*Access Denied* belongs to Total Eclipse’s late-1990s Blue Room period, following the much larger *Violent Relaxation* project. By this stage the group had already established itself as one of the label’s key psychedelic acts, so the album is better understood as part of an ongoing evolution than as an introduction to the project.
The release sits close to the point where Goa trance was giving way to a broader range of psychedelic and progressive approaches. Total Eclipse had always been comfortable with unusual structures and textures, and *Access Denied* reflects that willingness to keep moving rather than simply reproduce the sound of the debut.
