Release context
Total Eclipse were among the key French projects in the formative Goa trance period. Their later catalogue has frequently returned to unreleased recordings, live material and reworked archive music, making the project's post-2000 output as much about preservation and reinterpretation as new studio albums.
Tales of the Shaman belongs to Total Eclipse's later archival and reconstruction period. Instead of presenting the group's history as a single run of 1990s albums, these releases bring live recordings, compilation tracks and previously separated studio material back into view as parts of the same catalogue.
