Release context
Big Bang introduced The ZAP! as more than an occasional meeting between Benji Vaughan and Raja Ram. Released by TIP.World in 2008, the album joined Vaughan’s background in Prometheus and Younger Brother with Raja Ram’s long history in The Infinity Project, Shpongle and TIP.
That pairing is central to the album’s identity. The project brought together two generations of the UK psychedelic scene, with Vaughan’s detailed electronic production meeting Raja Ram’s unmistakable musical personality. The fact that The ZAP! later returned with the Balloonatik EP in 2017 confirms that Big Bang was the foundation of a distinct collaboration rather than a one-off studio experiment.
