Release context

*Nothing Lasts...But Nothing Is Lost* is Shpongle’s third album, released through Twisted Records in 2005. Its twenty pieces were designed to flow continuously into one another, so the record is better understood as a single long-form composition broken into sections than as a conventional sequence of separate tracks.

That structure is one of the album’s defining ideas. Simon Posford and Raja Ram move through guitars, vocals, oud, horns, flute, glitch-heavy synthesis and heavily processed sound without stopping to reset between pieces. The result is one of the clearest examples of Shpongle treating the album itself as the format for the psychedelic experience, not just the individual track.
