Release context
*Love Medecine and Natural Trance* was released in 2002 and makes the group’s developing musical philosophy explicit in the title itself. By this point Hilight Tribe had moved beyond the exploratory stage of the first two albums and was presenting the meeting of trance, percussion and live instrumentation as a deliberate identity.
The album therefore acts as an important bridge between the project’s early catalogue and the better-known live reputation that followed. “Natural trance” became a useful shorthand for Hilight Tribe’s approach, but here it is tied to a specific period when that idea was being shaped into a more coherent sound and performance language.
