Hilight Tribe’s 2005 *Live* album documents a side of the project that studio releases can only partly capture. The group’s identity has always depended heavily on performance, with live percussion and instruments treated as central parts of the music rather than decoration around a pre-programmed trance set.
That makes the album more than a stopgap between studio records. It records the way Hilight Tribe’s material functioned in front of an audience and helps explain why the group developed a following that crossed between psytrance festivals, live electronic events and world-music spaces.
