Drops Festival at a glance
Drops Festival is a Slovenian underground electronic music and art gathering built around powerful sound systems, handmade visual environments and a strong Forest/Dark psychedelic character. The festival emerged in 2018 from the ChagaDelia orbit with a deliberate idea: psychedelic trance and experimental techno did not have to live in separate cultural worlds. That cross-pollination remains one of its clearest signatures.
The event now takes place near Tenetiše and Kranj, on a meadow enclosed by forest in the Udin Woods area. Instead of chasing scale, Drops has cultivated a compact, specialist atmosphere centred on two principal music spaces, high-fidelity sound and detailed psychedelic construction. The festival remains active and staged its 2026 edition from 11–16 August.
How Drops Festival evolved
The first Drops edition took place in 2018, with the second edition explicitly referring back to that launch. Early programmes already emphasised Forest, Darkpsy and deep psychedelic music alongside a trippy techno branch. Through the following years the festival refined that formula instead of broadening into a generic multi-genre event.
By the early 2020s Drops had settled around Tenetiše/Kranj and developed a recognisable stage system. The Hallucinatorium became the primary psychedelic space while the second stage opened toward techno, IDM, electro and experimental forms. The event’s organisation also matured from its early ChagaDelia presentation into a formally registered Slovenian festival structure.
Music, programming & dancefloors
Drops is strongest in Forest Psytrance, Darkpsy and other deep psychedelic styles, with experimental techno and IDM forming an important parallel strand. The festival has repeatedly promoted sound quality as part of the artistic experience itself, including Lambda Labs and Funktion-One systems on its main areas.
This makes Drops less about marquee crossover names and more about immersion: darker music, precise low-end, long sets and carefully tuned spaces are central to how the festival is designed to feel.
Role in psytrance festival culture
Drops occupies an interesting position in the Slovenian underground by deliberately connecting Psytrance with experimental techno instead of treating them as competing scenes. Its DIY stage construction and visual art are also unusually central to the event’s identity.
The festival has developed a reputation as a smaller, specialist alternative to the major European psychedelic gatherings: less spectacle, more intimacy, and a strong emphasis on sound-system culture and night-time psychedelia.
Place, setting & atmosphere
The festival site sits in a biologically diverse forest area near a protected lake and wetlands. Organisers impose unusually specific site rules: no forest camping, no swimming in the protected lake, no interference with streams or fenced wetlands, no open fire and strict use of designated toilets, parking and waste systems.
Those restrictions shape the layout rather than sitting as generic sustainability messaging. The event’s forest setting is one of its attractions, but also one of the reasons access and camping are tightly controlled.
What sets Drops Festival apart
