Biography
Rawar is the psychedelic electronic project of Portuguese producer Helder Amaral, originally from Porto. The project draws on a broad musical background while focusing on deep atmospheres, forceful basslines and intense psychedelic movement. Its releases include Rainforest (2009), To The Gods (2018), the album 5 (2019) and continued releases into 2025. Amaral developed Rawar as an electronic project directed toward the psychedelic-trance scene, drawing on influences ranging from heavy music to earlier electronic styles. Early releases established a dark, forest-oriented sound with an emphasis on atmosphere and driving low-end.
The project continued through multiple albums and collaborations, with later work retaining its dark psychedelic foundation while moving across forest and higher-speed territory. Rawar represents a durable Portuguese contribution to the darker Psytrance underground, with a catalogue extending from the 2000s into the mid-2020s.
Rawar remained active with new material in 2025. Related collaborative identities include Highwar with Highko.
