The story behind DigiCult
DigiCult was founded in Belgium in 2003 and became one of the country's most durable psytrance exports. The project built its identity around melodic full-on: energetic enough for peak-time sets, but strongly shaped by morning-trance colour, emotional melodies, vocal textures and occasional oriental instrumentation.
The debut album Avenida de Bélgica arrived in 2006, followed by Out of This World, The Lucid Nation, Soul Samadhi and Full On Fantasy. Tracks such as “Star Travel” and “The Optimist” helped make DigiCult a reference point for the melodic full-on sound, while the long album run gave the project unusual continuity across multiple phases of the genre.
DigiCult remains highly active. Recent years have brought new singles, renewed chart visibility and the 2024 launch of Arcana with MoRsei, while the main project continues to release and perform. More than two decades after its formation, DigiCult is not functioning as a nostalgia act; it remains part of the current melodic full-on circuit.
Origins of DigiCult
Created in 2003 in Belgium by Davy Piessens and Bert De Decker, developing under the wider Dacru organisation.
The early years
Avenida De Belgica established the project internationally in 2006; Out Of This World followed on Dacru in 2008.
How the career developed
After the lineup transition, DigiCult continued with Bert De Decker and Dries De Crop, releasing The Lucid Nation, Soul Samadhi and Full On Fantasy. The current era also includes Arcana, a separate collaborative project with MoRsei.
DigiCult sound
DigiCult's signature is melodic full-on with deep rolling bass, uplifting themes, ethereal vocals and an old-school Goa tint. The music is polished and large-scale but usually keeps a warmer, more emotional tone than harder full-on styles.
Place in psytrance history
DigiCult is a central long-running representative of Belgian melodic Full-On and closely linked to the development and international reach of Dacru Records.
