Release context
Beyond 2000 is the original 1999 album by Swedish project trance[]control, created by cousins Alexander Carlborg and Andreas Wennersköld. It was first distributed independently through MP3.com, making the record part of the early internet era when artists could build an audience without relying entirely on a conventional label release.
That background is central to the album’s identity. The project later developed a substantial online following, and Carlborg eventually made the original record freely available again. Beyond 2000 is therefore as much a document of late-1990s digital music culture as it is a melodic trance album.
