Release context
Plasticine Hellyflowers EP is one of the last major Subcouds releases before Rickard Berglöf’s later work in Vibrasphere. Issued by Spiral Trax in 1998, the title track also appeared on DJ Anti’s Musica Psychedelica Scandinavica compilation, placing the duo inside a wider snapshot of the Swedish scene at the end of the decade.
The release therefore works both as a Subcouds record and as part of a broader historical moment. Spiral Trax was documenting a distinctly Scandinavian strain of psychedelic trance, and Plasticine Hellyflowers captures the duo just before their separate paths helped shape the next phase of that sound.
