What defined Stereo Society
Stereo Society is an Israeli independent label founded in 2018 by Ori Ben-Dror, who came to the project from booking and artist management. The label grew with close involvement from artists he had already worked with and was designed from the start as more than a release outlet: management, booking and artist development sit alongside the catalogue.
Musically, Stereo Society helped give a platform to a younger Israeli psychedelic sound that often sits below conventional full-on tempos and resists strict genre boxes. DEKEL and Modus became central to that identity, while releases from established artists such as Freedom Fighters, Pixel, Prometheus, Bumbling Loons and GMS connect the label to older generations of the scene.
How Stereo Society developed
Freedom Fighters described helping build the then-new label with friends in its earliest period, but current label biographies specifically identify Ori Ben-Dror as founder. From the first releases onward, Stereo Society developed a visual and sound around the phrase “Art From Earth” and a catalogue that treats psychedelic music as a broad creative field , not a fixed production template.
Albums and EPs by DEKEL, Modus and other roster artists pushed the label into international festival circulation. By 2026 it remains an active platform, with current artist releases and live/booking activity continuing alongside the record catalogue.
People, organisation & management
Ori Ben-Dror is the founder. Early collaborators, including Shahaf Efrat/Freedom Fighters, helped shape and launch the project, but the label’s own profile places Ben-Dror at the centre of the organisation. Stereo Society also operates management and booking functions, giving its artists a more integrated support structure than a release-only imprint.
Sound, roster & A&R direction
The “Stereo Society sound” is deliberately difficult to reduce to a single subgenre. Psytrance is the core, but the catalogue often favours deep grooves, spacious arrangements, organic or analog-feeling textures and lower-BPM psychedelic forms alongside more conventional trance structures.
Place in psytrance history
Stereo Society became one of the more distinctive Israeli psychedelic labels to emerge in the late 2010s, helping normalise a looser, less formulaic approach to dancefloor psytrance at a time when highly standardised festival production was widespread.
Scene impact & cultural reach
Its integrated label, management and booking model reflects the contemporary Psytrance scene, while the mix of newer artists and established figures creates an explicit bridge between generations of Israeli psychedelic music.
Key releases & catalogue moments
The 2018 foundation and early Freedom Fighters, DEKEL and Modus material established the label’s direction. Blank Friday Vol.1 in 2019 showcased both new and veteran artists, while later albums by DEKEL and Modus helped define the catalogue. Modus remained active with new material in 2026.
