What defined AP Records
AP Records was founded by Erez Jinno in 2001 as an independent platform for Analog Pussy. At a time when most psytrance artists still depended on specialist labels and distributors, AP gave Jinno and Jiga direct control over their own releases and gradually expanded into a other releases.
The label was based in Berlin during its main period and reflected Analog Pussy's broad approach to psychedelic music, moving between Goa, progressive psytrance, tech-trance and more experimental electronic ideas.
How AP Records developed
The first phase centred on Analog Pussy and the 2001 album Underground. Through the 2000s AP issued further albums, vinyl and digital material while also releasing other artists.
Erez Jinno and Jiga jointly owned and managed the label until Jiga's departure around 2008–09. Operations were then gradually reduced. The archive shows later releases continuing into 2012, but AP did not return to the sustained release schedule of its earlier years.
People, organisation & management
Erez Jinno established AP Records and remains identified as its owner. Jiga was a co-owner and co-manager during the main Analog Pussy partnership, leaving the label around 2008–09.
Jinno also created AP Digits and Things. Those are related artist-run imprints rather than alternative names for AP Records, so they are kept separate in the database.
Sound, roster & A&R direction
Psytrance is the core of AP Records, but its catalogue is stylistically restless. Goa, progressive psychedelic trance and tech-trance all appear, reflecting Analog Pussy's tendency to mix club-focused trance with rougher and more experimental production.
Place in psytrance history
AP Records is a strong early example of an established psytrance act building its own release infrastructure. That artist-control model became increasingly common as digital distribution made it easier for producers to manage catalogues directly.
Scene impact & cultural reach
The label's story is closely tied to Analog Pussy's unusually internet-driven career and to Berlin's role as a base for international electronic artists. It captures a period when psytrance was moving from a CD-and-distributor economy toward direct digital ownership.
Key releases & catalogue moments
Key releases include Analog Pussy's Underground, Vinyl Trax, Trance N' Roll, Synthetic Resurrection, Tune Yourself and the later Alive. Together they chart the label's shift from an Analog Pussy vehicle into a broader artist-owned catalogue and then into a reduced archival phase.
