Own Spirit Festival at a glance
Own Spirit Festival is a Spanish psychedelic gathering whose concept joins Psytrance culture with art, community and consciousness-oriented activity. By its fourth edition in 2018, the festival had moved to the Santa Ana reservoir near Baldellou in Aragón, which became its enduring home. Own Spirit as active in 2026, with an edition scheduled for 2–7 September at Baldellou.
How Own Spirit Festival evolved
The first Own Spirit Festival took place in 2015 at Masia Mas Gras, Callús, Catalonia. Its early statement already described a union of Psytrance culture with art, dance, music and consciousness-oriented activity, establishing a broader identity than a dancefloor-only event. The 2016 event was explicitly promoted as the second edition and expanded alternative and healing programming.
The festival was also at Callús in 2017. A major geographic change followed in 2018: Ultimae's contemporary event page calls that edition the fourth and places it by the Santa Ana reservoir near Baldellou, Aragón. The reservoir setting became central to the festival's self-image and current 'Ownland' language.
The 2026 site gives dates of 2–7 September and continues to present Baldellou as the festival home. Current terms identify Iris & Kira Projects S.L. As promoter.
Music, programming & dancefloors
Own Spirit retains a clear Psytrance centre while deliberately maintaining a second experimental electronic environment. The current main floor explicitly lists Psytrance, Full-On, Progressive Trance, Goa, Dark and Forest. The Temple of Frequencies includes techno, darkprog, downtempo, psydub and ambient, supporting Psy-Techno and Dark Progressive mappings but not automatic Psychill/Psybient classification from generic ambient or downtempo language.
Role in psytrance festival culture
Own Spirit's place in the Spanish Psytrance scene comes from its fusion of music with a self-conscious community/holistic framework. Workshops, talks, art, healing practices and family participation have been part of its identity since the early editions rather than later add-ons. The move to a reservoir landscape in Aragón gave the festival a distinctive regional setting and helped turn 'Ownland' into a recurring social space for an international but comparatively small-scale gathering.
Place, setting & atmosphere
The festival is embedded beside the Santa Ana reservoir near Baldellou and repeatedly frames nature as part of the experience. Producing a smaller festival in a remote natural site creates operational challenges around resources, costs, staffing and pandemic-era disruption. The festival emphasizes care for the Earth and connection with the landscape; these are organiser values , not an external environmental certification.
