Hadra Trance Festival at a glance
The 2026 gathering took place from 27–30 August at Vieure, opening a new multi-year artistic cycle under the Solar Punk Chronicles theme. Hadra Trance Festival grew directly from a wider Psytrance cultural organisation. The Grenoble-based Hadra association was founded in 2001 by electronic-music enthusiasts, especially people involved with psychedelic trance, and launched its festival in 2005.
This makes the festival part of a year-round cultural infrastructure , not an isolated annual event. Hadra is active in 2026 at Plan d'Eau de Vieure in the Allier. Its present artistic identity spans multiple Psytrance subgenres on the Main stage, alternative electronic music on Paradoxe, experimental live work on Le Cocon and quieter psychedelic electronic forms on La Bulle.
How Hadra Trance Festival evolved
The Hadra association was founded in Grenoble in 2001. The first Hadra Trance Festival was launched in 2005 at Chorges in the Hautes-Alpes. Since 2016, the festival has been based at Plan d'Eau de Vieure in the Allier.
The association highlights the unusual stability of this relationship with Vieure and the Bocage Bourbonnais, including local cultural projects beyond the festival itself. A separate chronology problem is still uncertain. Those claims cannot all be true under a single edition-count convention.
The conflicting edition numbers remain unresolved. As of 20 August 2026, Hadra is active and its site lists the next gathering for 27–30 August 2026 at Vieure.
Music, programming & dancefloors
Hadra has an unusually broad and clearly defined Psytrance programme. The Main stage focuses on the Psytrance spectrum, including Progressive Psytrance, Dark Progressive/Darkprog, Psygressive, Full-On, Dark Psytrance and Forest. The programme spans Psytrance, Full-On, Progressive Psytrance, Darkpsy, Forest Psytrance, Hi-Tech Psytrance, Psygressive, Psychill and Dark Progressive.
These styles are kept distinct. Retro Goa and psytech may appear in individual programmes without defining the festival’s core sound.
Role in psytrance festival culture
Hadra functions as a cultural institution for French Psytrance as much as a festival. A village of conferences, art exhibitions, workshops and yoga, and it treats scenography is a fundamental element of trance culture. International decoration teams, VJs, painters, digital artists and builders reshape the Vieure site each year.
The nonprofit model is also significant: the association connects festival revenue to artist support, labels, training, cultural action, scenography and experimental environmental/social practices. Its local work in and around Vieure—public meetings, children's DJ/decor workshops and participation in regional cultural networks—gives the festival a stronger territorial relationship than a temporary touring event.
Place, setting & atmosphere
Audience transport is the largest share of festival impact and promotes buses, trains, cycling and carpooling. The natural Plan d'Eau de Vieure setting is therefore paired with an explicit effort to measure and reduce mobility impacts , not a generic 'green festival' claim.
What sets Hadra Trance Festival apart
Festival launched in 2005 by the Hadra association; location history: Chorges, Pontcharra, Vercors, then Vieure since 2016. Nonprofit structure; four complementary current stages; strong scenography, art, workshop and local-community programmes. Major interruption: 2020 cancellation during COVID-era restrictions, followed by a 2022 reunion edition.
The conflict is preserved rather than silently corrected.
