The story behind Cypher
Cypher was a short-lived Paris psychedelic-trance studio project by Frédéric “Dado” Holyszewski, Jocelyn Jaigirdar, Stéphane Hoareau and J.C. Morin. Developed around the QuestionMark production centre, the group’s work appeared during the 1997–1999 period and culminated in its sole album iMusic in 1999.
The album ranged well beyond a single Goa formula, folding industrial, breakbeat, ambient, progressive and psychedelic-trance ideas into a deliberately varied studio record. A concentrated snapshot of Paris’s QuestionMark production network and its willingness to push Psytrance beyond standardized dancefloor structures at the end of the 1990s.
Historical project centred on the iMusic era. Shares personnel with Dado/Deedrah and 3 Point Turn but remains a distinct project identity; the album’s original Twisted Records association is historically important.
