Release context
Animal is Skazi's debut album and the record that introduced Asher Swissa's project in full-length form. Released in 2000 on Shaffel Records, it arrived at the beginning of a period when Skazi would become one of the most visible names in the harder, rock-influenced side of Israeli psytrance.
The album matters because the ingredients that later made Skazi divisive and distinctive were already taking shape: aggressive trance structures, a taste for guitar-driven energy and a performance style aimed at maximum impact. Later records would push that crossover identity much further, but Animal is the point where the project first became coherent enough to stand as an album rather than a collection of early experiments.
