Illusions & Collusions was deliberately conceived as the opposite of Laughing Buddha's debut. Where Sacred Technology was built from solo tracks, Jeremy Van Kampen spent roughly two years making this 2014 follow-up through collaboration, working with Avalon, Tristan, Space Tribe, Lucas, Eat Static, Dickster, Groove Addict, Master Blasters and Electric Universe.
That all-collaboration structure is the album's real identity. It turns Laughing Buddha's second full-length into a survey of relationships across the modern psytrance scene, with his own production style acting as the thread between very different studio partners. The result says as much about his place in the community as it does about his individual sound.
