S.U.N. Festival at a glance
S.U.N. Festival is the annual gathering of the Solar United Natives community at Csobánkapuszta in northern Hungary. The project began in 2012 when a group of festival organisers set out to build a different kind of gathering; the 2023 ten-year anniversary supports 2013 as the first S.U.N.
Festival. Its identity grew from the Hungarian Goa scene but intentionally extends beyond a conventional festival model: membership, volunteering, collective decision-making, land stewardship and reinvestment into a year-round community are central to the project. Csobánkapuszta, a former tiny settlement in Nógrád County, became both festival land and a community experiment.
S.U.N. Remained active in 2026, with the gathering held 13–20 July.
How S.U.N. Festival evolved
Solar United Natives dates its origin to 2012, when organisers began a project designed to test whether a festival could be organised as a participatory community instead of only as a commercial event. The first S.U.N. Festival followed in 2013; a decade later the organisers explicitly celebrated 2023 as the ten-year anniversary.
Csobánkapuszta became the long-term home, with the project gradually adding a community garden, studio/label activity, volunteer work and membership-based participation. The experiment formally reached its first decade in 2023, but the project continued through the 2024 'New Beginning', the 2025 gathering and the 13–20 July 2026 festival.
Music, programming & dancefloors
S.U.N.'s musical lineage is explicitly rooted in the Hungarian Goa scene and remains centred on Psytrance culture. Individual artist appearances do not necessarily define the festival’s overall sound.
Role in psytrance festival culture
S.U.N. Is significant because it deliberately blurs the boundary between festival and intentional community. The membership model frames participants as supporters and potential contributors instead of only customers, while members can volunteer, take part in land work and influence aspects of organisation.
This makes S.U.N. An unusually explicit example of the communitarian ideals often associated with psychedelic festival culture being extended into year-round governance and place-making.
Place, setting & atmosphere
Csobánkapuszta is treated as a long-term living landscape , not a temporary hired site. Practices have included forest clearing and restoration, tree planting, biodegradable materials, solar power, compost toilets, recycling, a community garden and a nature-conscious operating philosophy. These are organiser and community practices , not an external environmental certification.
What sets S.U.N. Festival apart
