Origin Festival at a glance
Origin remains active in the Western Cape, with the next announced edition running 29–31 January 2027. Origin Festival is a South African psychedelic music, art and community gathering based in the Western Cape. Origin remains active.
Recent editions continued through 2026, with the next festival scheduled for 29–31 January 2027 at Elandskloof Guest Farm, Helderstroom.
How Origin Festival evolved
The best-supported origin year is 2004. These independent strands converge on 2004 without requiring a reverse-engineered edition count. Origin Festival Cape Town is organised by GoodTimes Events CC, also presented publicly as Good Times Events.
Nano remains central to the festival's musical curation/history. Origin has become established at Elandskloof Guest Farm in the Helderstroom area between Villiersdorp and Greyton. A further edition for January 2027.
Music, programming & dancefloors
Psytrance is the clear core of Origin. The main Origin Floor is presented through psychedelic programming, while a separate Beats floor now extends into melodic techno and organic deep house. Psytrance is the festival’s core sound.
Role in psytrance festival culture
Its production culture combines psychedelic music with large-scale décor, visual art, riverside/nature setting and an explicit PLUR/conscious-party framework. The festival also frames itself as a meeting point for Southern African and international psychedelic communities. This makes Origin both a regional scene institution and a channel through which South African Psytrance has maintained international label/festival connections.
Place, setting & atmosphere
Origin's current venue is a mountain-valley site at Elandskloof with river, forest and outdoor camping and dance areas. Respect for nature and conscious party ethics are recurring parts of the festival identity.
