Rezonance NYE Festival at a glance
Rezonance NYE Festival was a long-running Western Cape New Year gathering that combined a strong Psytrance centre with a broader electronic programme. The Prizm/Prism psychedelic stage was the clearest Psytrance core. The exact first edition and original founders remain unresolved.
Rezonance was already an established recurring NYE festival by 2009/10. No 2026 edition or permanent closure is currently known, so the festival's status remains unclear.
How Rezonance NYE Festival evolved
Location changed across the Western Cape. Later sites include Durbanville-area venues, the Robertson/Pat Busch period and the Villiersdorp/Theewaters area. Accordingly the festival is not labelled Active or permanently Historic.
Music, programming & dancefloors
Rezonance was multi-genre at festival level but had a clear Psytrance core. Separate arenas carried techno, bass, drum and bass, breaks and other electronic styles; the Chill Temple carried chillout and ambient. Psytrance and Full-On are the clearest psychedelic strands.
Generic “progressive” is broader than Progressive Psytrance, while chillout and ambient are broader than Psychill or Psybient.
Role in psytrance festival culture
Rezonance functioned as a major New Year anchor within the Cape outdoor electronic and Psytrance scene. Its multi-day format combined music with décor, artistic expression, camping, healing/community spaces and a deliberately playful temporary-world identity. Historical copy emphasised freedom, interaction, awareness and conscious lifestyles.
Place, setting & atmosphere
These are useful examples of environmental/community ethos but are not presented as audited sustainability performance. The moving venue history also means environmental claims should not be generalised across every site.
What sets Rezonance NYE Festival apart
First held: Exact first edition unresolved; established by 2009. Setting: Travelling Western Cape NYE festival; historically Franschhoek, Durbanville, Robertson and Villiersdorp-area venues. Current status: Unknown.
