Indian Spirit at a glance
Indian Spirit is a long-running northern German Psytrance festival whose identity explicitly joins Psytrance with Goa Trance heritage. The first festival took place in 1999 at Heinrichsfelde airfield near Kyritz. Over the following years the event moved through several northern German locations before becoming established near Eldena in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The festival's own history divides its organisational story into two clear periods: World Wide Tribe organised and developed Indian Spirit through 2016, and Music Eggert continued the festival from 2017. The modern event is a multi-stage camping festival with a strong visual-production culture, combining Psytrance-focused stages with laser and video-mapping design, performance, workshops, yoga and communal chill-out areas. Indian Spirit is active in 2026.
The 2026 festival is scheduled for 26–31 August at Eldena.
How Indian Spirit evolved
Indian Spirit was first held in 1999 at Heinrichsfelde airfield near Kyritz. The festival subsequently moved through Grebbin, Jesendorf, Heiligengrabe and Stendal before arriving at Eldena. Until 2016, Indian Spirit was organised by World Wide Tribe.
In 2017, Music Eggert took over the event and explicitly positioned the new phase as a continuation of the work already established by the earlier organisation. The festival's public history shows a pandemic-era break in the normal annual sequence. Recent histories show continued expansion of the event's visual and community programme.
The festival remains active at Eldena.
Music, programming & dancefloors
Indian Spirit defines itself as a Psytrance or Goa Trance festival, and its current stage structure supports a more detailed but still conservative genre classification. The Sun Stage is described as a centre for Psytrance and Goa sounds. The Moon Stage presents psychedelic and progressive trance, while the Mushroom Stage is specifically associated with Hi-Tech and darker sounds.
The programme uses broader “dark sounds” language rather than specifically identifying Darkpsy.
Role in psytrance festival culture
Indian Spirit has been part of the German Goa/Psytrance scene since 1999, while deliberately carrying elements of Goa's outdoor trance-party culture into a large northern European festival. Visual production is central to the event's identity. Recent editions emphasize video mapping, lasers, decorated stage architecture and a UV garden, alongside acrobats, jugglers, fire/show elements, workshops, yoga and market areas.
These features position Indian Spirit as both a music festival and a recurring cultural meeting place at the end of the European summer season.
Place, setting & atmosphere
The festival is held on a meadow near Eldena in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with on-site camping and transport connections through Ludwigslust. No festival-wide sustainability certification or comparable claim is established.
