Biography
Kalya Scintilla is the psychedelic electronic project of Australian producer Yaegon Lamagaia. Although Lamagaia is also known for Merkaba, Kalya Scintilla is a distinct identity with a broader rhythmic palette and a stronger emphasis on downtempo, bass music and world-influenced sound design.
Early material dates to the late 2000s, and the project developed through releases including Beginnings, Dance the Spiral Never Ending and Open Ancient Eyes. Across these records Lamagaia combined dub weight, glitch editing, hand-percussion influence and cinematic atmosphere with the psychedelic sensibility of the wider psy scene. The result helped place Kalya Scintilla within the growing psybass and transformational-festival movement rather than conventional four-on-the-floor psytrance.
The project remains active through the Merkaba Music circle, with new work continuing into 2025. Kalya Scintilla is significant because it demonstrates how psychedelic culture expanded beyond trance tempo and structure while retaining many of the same audiences, visual language and festival spaces.

Place in psytrance history
Kalya Scintilla sits at the intersection of psychill, psybass, world-fusion and festival-oriented psychedelic bass culture, extending the broader psychedelic scene beyond conventional four-on-the-floor trance.
