Release context
Emme Ya returned The Nommos to the full-length format in 2021, many years after Digitaria and Primal Meltdown. Avatar describes Ariane Macavoy and Goa Gil as a partnership formed back in 1996, so the album belongs to a genuinely long-running project rather than a late reunion assembled around a familiar name.
The gap since the earlier records gives Emme Ya a different weight in the catalogue. It reconnects the duo's tribal and psychedelic approach with a much later production era while keeping the same core partnership intact, making the record a continuation of an old idea rather than an attempt to recreate a specific 1990s sound.
