Release context
Calm Under Pressure is Phaxe's first album, released by Iboga Records in 2013 after years of singles, collaborations and progressive-trance appearances. Kevin Josefsen was already well known within the Copenhagen scene, but the nine-track album gave the Phaxe project its first chance to establish a sustained full-length arc.
The Iboga connection is central to the context. By 2013 the label was one of the strongest homes for progressive psytrance, and Phaxe fit naturally into its melodic, groove-led catalogue. Calm Under Pressure therefore works both as a debut and as a snapshot of the progressive sound that was becoming increasingly prominent at major psytrance festivals.
