Release context

Chaos Laboratory is the debut GMS album, released in 1997 after Riktam Matkin and Bansi Quinteros had already immersed themselves in the Goa scene and begun producing together. The record predates the duo's own Spun Records operation and captures GMS before the project became one of the defining names of global full-on psytrance.

Its historical value lies in that early position. Later GMS releases became progressively tighter, louder and more dancefloor-focused, but Chaos Laboratory comes from the transitional period when Goa trance was mutating rapidly into newer forms of psychedelic trance. It is the laboratory in more than name: a first full-length document of ideas the duo would refine over the following decade.
