What defined Gravity Plus Records

Gravity Plus Records is the artist-run label associated with X-Dream, the German duo of Marcus Maichel and Jan Müller. It functions as a home for X-Dream’s catalogue and related projects rather than as a conventional open-roster psytrance imprint.

The label’s scope reaches beyond classic Goa trance. X-Dream’s own evolution into tech-trance, techno and electro is reflected in Gravity Plus releases by X-Dream, The Delta, Prime Suspect and associated projects.

How Gravity Plus Records developed

Gravity Plus became a vehicle for presenting and re-presenting X-Dream’s music under the artists’ own control. Its releases include retrospective collections, remixes, archival material and releases connected to side projects, allowing the duo’s work to be organised independently of the outside labels that originally issued many of their classic records.

The current Bandcamp operation also shows that Gravity Plus is not simply a static reissue name. It has continued to add archival and newer material, including X-Dream and related projects, through the 2020s.

People, organisation & management

The label is explicitly presented as X-Dream’s own label. Marcus Maichel and Jan Müller therefore sit at the centre of both its musical and organisational identity, with the imprint closely tied to their wider network of projects.

Sound, roster & A&R direction

Gravity Plus mirrors X-Dream’s unusually broad electronic trajectory: Goa and psychedelic trance, tech-trance, techno, electro and darker machine-driven club music all appear. It is an artist-led catalogue platform rather than as a label built around one fixed genre.

Place in psytrance history

The label is significant because it gives one of psytrance’s most influential acts a direct framework for preserving and contextualising a catalogue that helped push the genre toward tech-trance and techno. That artist-controlled perspective is especially useful for releases that originally appeared across multiple outside labels.

Scene impact & cultural reach

The label allows an artist-controlled catalogue to connect historical recordings, remixes and side projects without erasing their original release contexts. That makes it particularly useful for documenting continuity between 1990s Goa culture and later psy-techno aesthetics.

Key releases & catalogue moments

Retrospective X-Dream collections, remixes, The Delta material and later archival releases define Gravity Plus more clearly than a single launch title. The current releases also gathers music originally released elsewhere while identifying the imprint as X-Dream’s own label.
