Release context
The Golden Years - The Very Best Off is the long-awaited Hallucinogenic Horses album released by Lost Theory Records in 2012. The label’s original notes describe the record as roughly five years in the making, with material created between 2005 and 2010 rather than written as a single short album session.
That long gestation helps explain the album’s unusually broad cast of connections. The project draws on artists from the Scandinavian forest-psychedelic network, including links with Derango, Purosurpo and other related projects. More than a simple retrospective title, the album functions as a concentrated document of a particularly experimental corner of the late-2000s forest scene.
