What defined High Society Records
High Society Records was a German electronic label with a notable presence in the mid-1990s Goa-trance scene. It is best remembered in psytrance history for releasing early full-length work by artists who later became strongly associated with the genre.
The label’s Goa releases include Etnica’s first album, The Juggling Alchemists Under the Black Light, as well as Kinder der Erde and later Germinator material.
How High Society Records developed
High Society was active during the period when Goa trance was expanding rapidly across Europe. In 1995 it released Etnica’s debut album, a major early statement from the Italian project, and also issued Kinder der Erde by Thorsten Minning and Volker Dornemann.
Further psychedelic releases followed through the second half of the decade, including Germinator’s Propagation in 1999. Several of these records have since been restored through authorised reissues, making the label’s contribution easier to trace today.
People, organisation & management
High Society was not exclusively a psytrance label, so its relevance to ViralFlowMusic comes from a specific strand of its electronic catalogue rather than from the entire company identity.
Sound, roster & A&R direction
Its documented Goa releases range from melodic, hypnotic mid-1990s trance to deeper and more psychedelic material. The catalogue reflects the loose stylistic boundaries of the era before modern psytrance subgenres became firmly separated.
Place in psytrance history
The label’s importance within Goa history comes from the artists and records it backed at an early stage. Etnica’s 1995 debut in particular places High Society directly inside the formative European Goa network.
Scene impact & cultural reach
The Etnica release connected a formative Italian Goa project with the mid-1990s German trance market.
