What defined Cloud 99
Cloud 99 Music was launched by Vibrasphere members Rickard Berglöf and Robert Elster in 2006. It grew from the long-standing Cloud 99 studio context and functioned primarily as a home for Vibrasphere’s downbeat side rather than as another full Psytrance label.
Cloud 99 preserved and foregrounded the downtempo side of one of Progressive Psytrance’s most important Swedish acts, helping show that Psytrance artists often maintained parallel chill/ambient practices.
How Cloud 99 developed
Cloud 99 studio predates the label and was important to the early Swedish Goa/Psytrance scene around Subcouds and Vibrasphere. The record-label identity is specifically dated to 2006. Selected Downbeats Vol. 1 appeared that year, followed by further digital/downbeat material including Selected Downbeats Vol. 2 in 2009.
People, organisation & management
Rickard Berglöf and Robert Elster are co-founders. No wider ownership or management structure is established.
Sound, roster & A&R direction
The label’s clearest identity is downbeat, ambient and psychill-adjacent material from Vibrasphere. Psychill is used as the closest site genre classification; Psytrance is not assigned simply because the founders were major Progressive Psytrance artists.
Place in psytrance history

Scene impact & cultural reach
The imprint bridges dancefloor Psytrance culture and the chill-out tradition without collapsing Psychill, Psybient and Progressive Psytrance into interchangeable labels.
