The story behind Biodegradable

Biodegradable emerged from the San Francisco psychedelic-trance scene around 1999–2000 and involved Samy Guediche, Nicolas Oesch and Max Peterson. Credits differ on the early lineup: Acidance’s notes for Phaser present Guediche and Oesch as Biodegradable with Peterson as an additional contributor, while Peterson later described all three as forming the project together in 2000.

The project released tracks through European trance labels before Phaser appeared through Inti Raimy/Acidance. The short-lived project links directly to Guediche’s CPU, Oesch’s Mekkanikka and Peterson’s later Sirius Isness and Mad Maxx work. Biodegradable captures an early Bay Area crossover point between European-born producers and the San Francisco Psytrance scene, and it provides direct lineage into CPU, Mekkanikka, Sirius Isness and Mad Maxx.

Historical project. Most useful as an artist-lineage and scene-history link rather than as a long-running act.

Biodegradable sound

Early-2000s Psytrance with a morning/full-on orientation: forceful basslines, crunchy synthetic textures, bright psychedelic leads and progressive melodic movement , not a minimal or purely dark approach.
